As I look out my window at the newly fallen snow, my thoughts turn to spring and summer weddings. If you are planning for your 2018 wedding or event, you can reach us through our contact form on this website or email directly mainelakesflorist@gmail.com to set up a consultation.
It isn’t a very well kept secret that lilacs are Jess’ favorite. She’s even been heard to say “If I had to choose between lilacs and chocolate, I would choose lilacs.”
Lilacs are fleeting and delicate, they don’t hold up well when not in water. The old saying “gather ye rosebuds while ye may” should really probably be updated to reflect the urgency of today’s world with “gather ye lilacs while ye may.”
Having said that, we gathered these lilacs, violets, bleeding hearts and lily of the valley from the garden and designed a very springy posy for you to enjoy. I bet you can imagine the fragrance!
If you want lilacs to be a part of your wedding, plan on setting your date for early May. If you miss their bloom locally, you’ll have to wait a year.
We still have a few dates available in 2017. We’d love to hear from you to schedule a meeting to talk about your wedding plans. The best way to reach us quickly is via email @ mainelakesflorist@gmail.com
With a fresh coating of snow on the ground near Raymond Pond, it really is starting to feel like the holiday season. We are giving thanks for being able to work with such beautiful things and people.
There has been a bit of confusion about what we do. We don’t do retail any longer, but we are glad to accept your orders for holiday arrangements. We do require at least a week’s notice because we don’t keep flowers in stock any longer, so please give us a call at 207-655-5020 or email at mainelakesflorist@gmail.com and we can create something special for you, a client, family or friends.
Like hemlines, we have seen all kinds of different trends in ceremony decor over the years. We are starting to meet with couples for the 2017 season and are looking forward to helping you find your trend.
We’d love to get together with you and talk about your plans. You can contact us through the form at right.
If you had to invent a perfect Maine summer day, and the perfect place for a Maine summer wedding, you might have imagined the spot on Raymond Pond, in Raymond, Maine where Katie and Ciaran tied the knot.
Using local flowers and foliage was important to the couple so on the Wednesday before the wedding Jess headed over to the Hancock Family Farm in Casco and cut zinnias, statice, sunflowers, ageratum, celosia and gomphrena. The rudbeckia came from the Fay garden, as did the hosta and sedum for the boutonnieres.
Yup, pretty much perfect!
We here at Maine Lakes Wedding and Event Florist have created our share of patriotic themed arrangements. Red, white and blue can be such a fun color scheme to work with, especially in the summer! White is an easy one…roses, dahlias, mums, queen Anne’s lace, baby’s breath. Red can be a harder color to find the right style flower for a summer wedding…Jess loves using bee balm, mini carnations, gerbera daisies, and gypsy dianthus. Blue is the hardest color to find in flowers, but delphimium and hydrangeas are usually a good bet.
What ever you do to celebrate our great country’s birthday, make it lovely, too!
Lynnsey wanted a soft, romantic, gardeny bouquet to carry when she married Devin on Memorial Day weekend 2016. Jess designed just that using locally foraged greens (blueberry, lady’s mantle and hosta from the garden), ranunculus, astilbe, peonies, scabiosa and dusty miller.
Lynnsey and Devin chose to marry on the lawn of a lovely home on Woods Pond in Bridgton, ME. Weather in Maine can change from 90 degrees and sunny to 35 and snowing on Memorial Day weekend, so Lynnsey thought of everything. She even provided blankets, shawls and portable heaters to make sure her guests were comfortable. It didn’t snow.
Jess has fallen in love with astilbe. It’s temperamental, but when it’s fresh and kept cool, it lasts and lasts. Lynnsey’s Honor Attendant carried this bouquet of astilbe, dusty miller and blueberry foliage, all hand tied with a blush satin ribbon. Oh, and the fragrance!
